Kylie Sergeant

Ballet, ARAD

Kylie has been dancing practically her entire life. Growing up, her family owned a dance school which quickly introduced her to the world of dance. As a toddler, she often played in the corner of a ballet class, mimicking the older dancers.

Kylie began formal ballet training at three years old with later additions of modern, contemporary, jazz, stage, and hip hop. From a very young age, it was obvious her true passion was ballet. She completed all of her Royal Academy of Dance examinations from Primary to Advanced 2, receiving Distinction or higher in every exam. In March 2024, she also passed the prestigious Solo Seal Examination. In May 2024, Kylie received distinction on her Intermediate and Advanced 1 ISTD modern examinations and is currently working towards her Advanced 2 exam.

In addition to her local training, Kylie has danced internationally at summer intensives including School of American Ballet (New York), Elmhurst Ballet School (England), Ballet West (Utah), and European School of Ballet (Amsterdam). These experiences allowed her to learn from a variety of different instructors, expanding her knowledge and understanding of ballet and contemporary.

Over the years, she has been honoured to receive many awards and scholarships including top 10 in Youth America Grand Prix semi-finals, ballet representative for BC Provincials four years running, and most recently winning the intermediate ballet section at BC Provincials as well as top overall performer of the event.

Kylie loves being on stage. Over the years, she has been honoured to work with talented and inspiring choreographers, performing in many solo and group pieces. Some highlights are performing the role of Clara in Goh Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker in 2019, Odette in a student production of Swan Lake in 2022, and Sugar Plum with the Surrey City Orchestra in 2023.

Kylie credits her attention to detail and enthusiasm for teaching in part to training with her mom, Tyra Sergeant, who she began shadowing at a young age. At twelve, she began choreographing solos for others as well as teaching a variety of classes. She continues to train extensively every day, pursuing personal growth as a performer, teacher, and choreographer. In the future, Kylie hopes to dance professionally while continuing to share her love for the art form with young dancers.
